Democrats now ready for their turn
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Here we go again.

A week after the Republican Party Presidential primary, county voters will go to the polls Saturday to pick their favorite Democrat presidential candidate.

Cherokee County Election Commission Chairman Suzanne Turner said she expects Saturday's Democrat Party Presidential Primary to draw more voters to the polls than the Republican primary, which attracted 4,561 voters.

"We'll probably have more," Turner said. "There is a lot of interest and the weather is expected to be better."

Voters who braved near freezing temperatures and a chilly rain to vote in the Republican primary aren't eligible to vote Saturday.

No Republican presidential hopefuls campaigned here, but Cherokee County has been a busy place for Democrats.

Former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democrat vice-presidential candidate John Edwards made a campaign stop here Wednesday at Limestone College's Fullerton Auditorium.

Delaware Sen. Joe Biden also campaigned here. Although he has dropped out of the race, his name still appears on the primary ballot.

For the presidential primaries, the number of polling places has decreased from 33 to 13.

Voters can check their precinct to know where to vote by visiting SCVotes.org and using the "Find Your Precinct" feature or by using the "Check Your Voter Registration" feature on the menu under "Voters."

Voters without access to the Internet can contact the election commission office at (864) 487-2559 or voter registration office at (864) 487- 2563.

Signs will also be posted at old polling places directing voters to the new polling sites.

The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
