Landowner remains hopeful about project despite ruling

Pacolet Highway might still be home to a new housing development.

Land owner Hank Jolly said despite a recent Cherokee County Board of Appeals ruling he still hopes to reach an agreement to transform a 60-acre lot on Pacolet Highway into a development that will feature 179 patio homes and 155 apartment units.

The appeals board in December denied a variance request to reduce from the minimum lot size for patio homes from 7,000-square foot to 6,000-square foot.

The proposed developer, CDS Development, asked for the variance to keep the price range affordable and to avoid the expenses that crossing a waterway on the property would create, according to CDS Development official Chris Sinz.

"We still want to do something," Jolly said. "But we haven't come to terms. When it's OK, we can proceed. I would love to do something (with the property). But it's a business deal."

The city is also hoping to annex the property along with nearby Limestone Central Elementary School.
