Nelson Broome
Owner of Broome Automotive

BLACKSBURG - Nelson Broome, 92, of 484 Blue Bird Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Broome was the widower of Lois McDaniel Broome and son of the late Darwin and Catherine Williams Broome. Born in Cherokee County, he owned Broome Automotive and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher,

deacon, Sunday

School superintendent,

Training Union director, usher, member of the Senior Choir and on the cemetery committee. He was also a veteran of World War II.

Surviving Mr. Broome are three daughters, Joann McDaniel of Saluda, N.C., Debbie Martin of Blacksburg and Cathy Carpenter of Belmont, N.C.; a son, Melvin Broome of Blacksburg; a sister in-law, Sarah Broome; eight grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Broome was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Broome, Lowns Broome, Preston Broome, J.W. Broome; a sister; a son, Billy Edward Broome; and three granddaughters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Billy Sanders and Terry Lowe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service; at other times they will be at the residence.
