Cherokee County School District Superintendent Dr. Bill James on Monday announced the names of the three finalists being considered to take over the vacant Blacksburg High School head football coaching job.

James said about 30 applicants had sought the position left vacant by the resignation of Robbie Blanton at the conclusion of the most recent football season.

The Cherokee County School Board is expected to vote on Dr. James' recommendation during its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.

The three candidates are:

1. BRIAN SMITH, who is currently coaching at Seneca High School and has coaching experience at Strom Thurmond, North Greenville and Riverside.

2. SCOTT DURHAM, the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Goose Creek High School. He has previously served in coaching capacities at Beaufort, North Central and Pendleton high schools.

3. Wren High Head Coach MICKEY MOSS, whose previous coaching experience includes stints at Lake City, Saluda and Clarendon high schools.

James did not indicate which of the three he would recommend.

Blanton will remain at the school as a teacher and the athletic director.
