Combine in future of Shrine Bowl hopefuls

Shrine Bowl wannabes take note - South Carolina will again employ a combine process to measure height and weight and test speed and quickness.

Each player will be evaluated in the vertical jump, 40 yard dash, pro agility shuttle and bench press.

Gaffney's J.B. Shippy and Kevin Brockman were selected in the 2007 Shrine Bowl.

Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas Athletic Director Ron Long announced this week that Coach Reggie Kennedy of Orangeburg Wilkinson High School will serve as the 2008 Shrine Bowl Combine Coordinator in South Carolina. Sean Glover will serve as the Assistant Coordinator.

This combine will be for rising seniors only and will be included as part of the overall selection process for the 2008 South Carolina Shrine Bowl Player Selections.

Rising seniors should bring videos for the Shrine Bowl Staff to evaluate.

"The North Carolina Tar Heels have been using a similar type combine process for the last several years and it has proven successful on the field and resulting in the Tar Heel players signing scholarships," Kennedy said. "Our hope is for a more efficient selection process, performance on the field and scholarship opportunities for our players in South Carolina."

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with testing slated to start at 10:30 a.m.

WHO: Only rising seniors are eligible to attend, no underclassmen will be admitted. Coaches please help us with this to keep our numbers manageable. Shrine Bowl and North- South Coaches will be present to view players' performance and attitude.

COST: $20.00 per player. This will be cash only. High School Coaches will be admitted free. Each player will receive a T-shirt and unmatched exposure.

$20.00 per college coach for each combine. Each coach that registers at each individual combine will receive all player information in the mail within that week. There will be no checks accepted at any of the combines, cash only please.
