Two Gaffney city councilmen seek re-election By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com Two Gaffney City council members want to keep their jobs. Dennis Ramsey said he intends to seek re-election to his District 4 seat. Ditto for District 6 incumbent Billy Love. Candidates can begin filing for the general election on May 30, according to the election calendar approved by the Gaffney Election Commission on Friday. "I enjoy serving and I try to do what is best for the people of the City of Gaffney," said Ramsey, who will be seeking his second term. Love said he is seeking his third term because he likes public service. "I enjoy it and hopefully I can do it again," Love said. Attempts to reach District 1 council member Wayne Ramsey were unsuccessful over the weekend, but the incumbent is expected to seek re-election. Mayor Henry Jolly is also up for re-election. He's been mum on his intentions. The 2-week filing period for council and mayor ends June 13, just less than two months before the election on Tuesday, Aug. 12. If necessary, runoff elections would be held Tuesday, Aug. 26. The election commission also oversees the Gaffney Board of Public Works commission elections. Candidates can begin submitting their petitions for the commission seats at noon on May 15. That 2-week filing period concludes on May 28 at noon. This time around, District 1 commissioner Joe Dean Knuckles and District 3 commissioner Elijah Inabinette will be on the ballot. |
