Charles Petty Fire chief for the City of Gaffney for 42 years Charles Anthony Petty, 80, of 206 Drayton Trail, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008. Born in Gaffney, he was the widower of Margie Idell Kennedy Petty and son of the late Thomas Ernest Petty and Mamie Wylie Petty. Mr. Petty was the fire chief for the City of Gaffney for 42 years. A veteran of the United States Navy, he was a Mason and member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Surviving are two sons, Benny Webster and wife, Barbara, of Dacusville and Charles C. Petty and wife, Jeannine, of Gaffney; two daughters, Cindy Spencer- Humphries and husband, Spencer, and Susan Fowler and husband, Butch, all of Gaffney; a brother, Pittman Petty and wife, Doris, of Gaffney; a sister, Parniece Owens of Ridgeway; two grandchildren, Tyler Petty and Hope Fowler; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Tony Cudd of Gaffney. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Petty was preceded in death by two brothers; five sisters and one step grandchild. Services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Wright, Dr. Jim McClure and Dr. Donnie Padgett officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1612 N.
