Mike Mathis Retired from SCDOT BLACKSBURG - Michael Dewayne Mathis, 50, of 604 W. Pine St., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at his home. Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, he was the husband of Nancy Cook Mathis and son of John F. Mathis of Gaffney and the late Marie Kinsey Mathis. Mr. Mathis was retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation and was a member of New Harvest Church of God. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, Kevin Mathis of Westminster and Mark Cook of Gaffney; two daughters, Melissa Mathis of Seneca and Tracy Cook of the home; three brothers, John Mathis, Charles Mathis, both of Gaffney, and Eugene Mathis of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a sister, Diane Parker of Gaffney; and three grandchildren, Anna Marie Cook of the home, Abby Mathis of Westminster and Brandi Williams of Seneca. In addition to his mother, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Harris. Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at New Harvest Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Robert Wells Interment was in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Harvest Church of God, 120 Boiling Springs Hwy., Gaffney, S.C. 29341; or to Hospice Care of S.C., 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
