James Rainey
Retired maintenance technician
James Rainey, 97, of 100 White Oak Drive, Apt. 50 passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at 10:15 p.m. in Upstate Carolina M e d i c aCenter.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late
Thomas Rainey and
the late Mattie
Rainey. He was a World War II veteran and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8509 in Baltimore, Md.
Mr. Rainey was a retired maintenance technician and a member of Beth - El Temple Church of Baltimore.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Dawkins and Mariam Battle, both of Gaffney; three sons, Wardell Rainey, Robert Rainey and Roy Dean Rainey, all of Gaffney; a bother, Thomas Rainey of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Janie Rainey of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Freddy Davidson. Burial will in the church cemetery. Body will be place in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Joyce Dawkins, 119 Lincoln Drive.
