Knight earns win for Saints in twinbill opener

The Limestone baseball team split its doubleheader against Conference Carolinasrival Barton on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints won the first game 9-5, but dropped the second game 5-2.

Limestone stands at 1-1 in conference play (6-4 overall).

In game one, Limestone scored three runs in the second and added five more in the third. Barton got a run in the bottom of the third and fourth, and two more in seventh to cut Limestone's lead to 8-4. The Saints scored again in the eighth and the Bulldogs scored once more in the final inning.

Clayton Knight earned the win for Limestone in game one, striking out two in 6 2/3 innings. Jordan Liette finished up the remainder of the contest.

Third baseman Matt Still was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double for the Saints. Second baseman Drew Lydon had a home run and 2 RBIs. Center fielder Zach Watkins had 3 RBIs.

Limestone gave up three runs in the first in the nightcap. Limestone got a run in the fourth, but the Bulldogs scored twice in the fifth. The Saints tried to come back in the seventh, but only scored once.

Designated hitter Adam McSwain and Still each recorded an RBI for the Saints.
