ESTILL - Sammie Irene Hipps Greene, 86, went home to be with the Lord at Heritage Healthcare of the Low Country, where she was a resident, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008.

Born in Haywood County, N.C., she was the widow of Jerry Myer (J.M.) Greene and daughter of the late Samuel Hipps and Winnie McCracken Hipps. She was retired from Estill Manufacturing Company and was a member of Lawtonville Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and WMU.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Greene and wife, Judy, of Estill; five grandchildren, Jeff Beam, Brian Beam, Suzanne Erkins, Michael Greene and Anna Toney; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by a daughter, Sammie Kay Beam.

Graveside services were held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Lannie Brisendine. The family met with friends at the graveside after the service.

The family will be at their respective homes.
