County to assess bridges

      Some county bridges might be meeting their end. Cherokee County Council last week agreed to hire an engineering firm to inspect the 20 bridges built and maintained by the county. Cherokee County Assistant Administrator Holland Belue estimated the cost of the study at $7,000.

Home starts down, prices up

      It was a mixed bag concerning new home starts last month. There were seven new homes starts in Cherokee County in January - down two from the same month a year ago, according to a monthly report issued by the Home Builders Association of Cherokee County.

Council delays action on request

      The chairman of the Cherokee County Election Commission will have to wait a little longer to learn if she'll get a little more in her paycheck. For the second time, the Cherokee County Council Finance Committee last week delayed action on Suzanne Turner's request for a $4,158 salary increase.
