Charles E.Harris A Master Plumber Charles E. Harris, 77, of 418 Chatham Ave., Gaffney, died Thursday morning, Feb. 21, 2008 in Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Husband of Carolyn Sarratt Harris, he was born in Cherokee County, a son of the late Dewey Harris Sr. and the late Vesta Corry Harris. He was a 1951 graduate of Granard High School and a graduate of Area Trade School in Denmark, S.C. He was a member of Dunton United Methodist Church and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Charles worked, and was well known throughout the area, as a Master Plumber. Charles was also preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Thompson Harris, a son, Maurice Harris, and five brothers, Samuel, Dewey Lee, Marvin, Ervin and Calvin Harris. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kevin Harris (Janet) of Greensboro, N.C., and James Lamar Byers of the home; a daughter, Latanya Byers of Gaffney; a brother Weldon Harris (Lillie) of South Windson, Conn.; three sisters, Mattie Manning (Lowell) of Gaffney, Dorothy McDowell (Hershel) of Bethesda, Md., and Mary Louise Parker (Carlton) of Greensboro; five grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; a sister-in-law, Esther Harris; and a special friend, William "Wild Bill" Tate. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Dunton United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Wesley Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Arrangements by The Gilmore Mortuary. |
