Bandits strike local Zaxby's and two more in Upstate cities A West Floyd Baker Boulevard restaurant is missing a safe and more than $16,000 in cash following a three-restaurant burglary spree that has Gaffney police teaming up with investigators in two other counties to try and catch the thieves. The Zaxby's on West Floyd Baker Boulevard was broken into between 4:30 a.m. and 4:40 a.m. Monday. Security camera footage showed two suspects enter the parking lot in a small, dark-colored truck. The officer responding to an alarm found a broken glass door. After a restaurant official showed up, it was learned the restaurant's safe had been taken from the office. Police said they were told $16,828.50 was in the safe, while total theft losses and damage exceeded $18,000. Immediately, police turned their attention to similar burglaries that occurred at Zaxby's restaurants just hours earlier in Duncan and Powdersville in Spartanburg and Anderson counties, respectively. The Duncan restaurant was hit first, police said, followed by the Powdersville and Gaffney restaurants. The Gaffney Zaxby's location was struck about an hour after the Powdersville burglary, which Det. Ron Ramsey said also happened to be the driving time from Powdersville to Gaffney. A cash box from a safe at either the Powdersville or Duncan restaurants was recovered by Gaffney police on Frontage Road, near Newark Electronics. Ramsey said the discarded cash box had receipts from two restaurants. |
