Tune In @ Your Library® during Teen Tech Week 2008

Local teens will be tuning in at the library as the Cherokee County Public Library celebrates the second annual Teen Tech Week, March 2-8. They join thousands of other libraries and schools across the country that are celebrating this year's theme, "Tune In @ Your Library®."

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries.

Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' non-print resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology.

Teens in grades 7-12 are encouraged to celebrate Teen Tech Week by attending a special event at the Cherokee County Public Library, 300 E. Rutledge Ave., on Tuesday, March 4, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

The library's first session of "Laptop Lab," a series of hands-on workshops designed to connect teens to technology, will focus on Internet searching skills and electronic database resources that will assist them in homework and research assignments. Pizza will be served, and there will be games and door prizes.

Teens who plan to attend should register in advance, either in person or by calling the library at 864-487-2711.
