Bus scrapes garbage truck

A Cherokee County School District bus was involved in a minor fender-bender with a Gaffney garbage truck early Monday.

No one was injured and the impact was so slight the bus driver didn't even know the bus had clipped the front bumper of the garbage truck and kept on driving, according to the school district's transportation director, Jackie Queen.

A police report from Gaffney police showed the incident occurred on Suez Street at about 7:51 a.m. The garbage truck was stopped on Suez and the bus, which was headed in the same direction, clipped the front of the garbage truck as it attempted to go around the vehicle.

Equipment stolen

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for stolen earth-moving equipment.

Someone stole a 1997 Kobelco Track hoe, model SK200 Mark Four, from a Legan Drive, Blacksburg, property sometime between Feb. 17 and Feb. 24. The machine is valued at about $25,000, according to a police report, which lists the theft as a grand larceny.

Tools stolen

Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported someone stole more than $1,000 in tools from a work truck parked on Providence Creek Road in the McIntyre Mobile Home Park.

The incident occurred sometime between Friday afternoon and Monday morning. Among the items taken were a 20-inch Stihl chain saw, a Tiger Shark reciprocating saw, a 1/2-inch DeWalt drill, and a 146-piece Kobalt socket set.

Clothes taken

Gaffney Police are investigating a Friday afternoon incident in which two women walked out of a West Floyd Baker Boulevard business without paying for an estimated $500 to $800 in clothing.

According to a police report, two women entered Citi Trends at 12:38 p.m. and began picking up clothing as they walked around the store. Police were told the two women then exited the store without paying for the merchandise and then left in a 1998 Ford Explorer. Police were able to trace the license plate on the vehicle to a Maiden, N.C., man.

Chipper stolen

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported someone stole two pieces of landscaping equipment from a Killion Drive, Gaffney, residence sometime between Feb. 21 and Feb. 23.

Police said a wood chipper valued at $300 was stolen from the yard and a Troy Built rear tine tiller valued at $600 was stolen from a carport.

Stolen car bought

A local woman learned upon trying to get a title for a used car she had bought that it was reported stolen out of York County, according to police.

The woman reported the incident after trying to get a title from the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles for a 1995 Toyota 4Runner she purchased from a local man for $800. The vehicle was turned over to police.

Tractor stolen

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for a John Deere tractor reported stolen from Ashworth School Road in the northern part of Cherokee County.

Owned by a Boiling Springs man, the John Deere 4320 tractor, which was connected to a John Deere 7400 front loader, was taken sometime between Saturday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. The two pieces of machinery have a combined value of about $18,000.
