William Dawkins Sr.

Retired from Boren Clay William ("Bill") Dawkins Sr. of 100 Ashley St., passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Trudy Glenn Dawkins and the son of the late Bee Dawkins and Julia Littlejohn Dawkins.

He was a member

and deacon of Mt.

Zion Baptist Church, an Army veteran and retired from Boren Clay Brickyard after 35 years. He was a member of Mount View Masonic Lodge No. 301.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Dawkins of the home; three sons, William Dawkins Jr. of Boiling Springs, Jerrod Dawkins of the home and Sherman Dawkins of McCormick; six daughters, Dr. Annie R. Byrd of Monroe, Conn., Frances Ashe of Greer, Lind Hardy and Naomi "Mot"Wilson, both of Gaffney, and Kimberly Thomas and Tonya Thomas, both of Spartanburg; two brothers, Fred Dawkins of Washington, D.C., and Stan Dawkins of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Lois Dawkins of Gaffney and Lenora Camp of High Point; 12 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and a goddaughter Colletta Reddish of Gaffney.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 4760 Union Hwy., Gaffney, conducted by Dr. A. L. Brackett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Viewing will be at Fosters Funeral Home, Gaffney, today beginning at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home.
