Limestone holds off late surge by Cobras for 62-59 win

Andre Coleman had six rebounds against Coker on Tuesday.
The Limestone College men's basketball team picked up a Conference Carolinas win against Coker on Tuesday night at the Timken Center 62-59.

The Saints improve to 6-13 in the conference (9-16 overall) as the Cobras fall to 7-13 in the league (9-18) overall.

There were 12 lead changes and six ties in a tight second half. Limestone had a five-point lead with 4:31 left to play (54-49), but a three-pointer by Josh Poston put Coker within two. Lukas Varga hit another three-pointer to give the Cobras a brief 57-56 advantage.

The Saints' Andrae Franklin made a layup with 1:20 remaining for a 58-57 lead, but Mason Ambler hit a field goal to put Coker ahead again.

Andre Coleman's two-point basket with 19 seconds left lifted the Saints to a 60-59 advantage, and two freethrows by Marques Williams secured the 63-59 victory.

After five lead changes in the first half, Coker had a 32-29 edge going into the second half.

Williams led Limestone with 16 points. He also dished out four assists. Coleman and Franklin posted six and eight boards, respectively. Both players scored 11 points and Franklin had two blocks. Bobby Grier had a gamehigh five assists.

Coker saw three players score in double figures.

In women's action, the Lady Saints cruised by Coker College 78-58.

Limestone's Stephanie Munoz led all scorers with a career high, 22 points on 6-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc.

Munoz also sparked the Lady Saints' defense with five steals.

For Coker, Madison Bycroft had 20 points and five steals.

The Saints improve to 15-14 on the season, 10-9 in the league. Coker falls to 6-21 overall, 5-15 in the league.

Lindsay Kyle had 15 points, 7 rebounds and was 6-for-9 from the floor for the Saints. Addie Graves chipped in 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Monica Adams recorded her sixth double-double of the season, with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Coker jumped to a 5-3 lead to start the game, but Limestone quickly took control, leading by as many as 18 points. The Saints shot 39 percent from the field to lead 37-19 at the end of the first half.

The Lady Saints led most of the second half, pushing their lead to as many as 26. Coker made a run to cut the Saint lead to 12 with 8:16 but the Lady Cobras ran out of steam. The Saints shot 42 percent for the game.
