Impact Weekend organizers need your help Impact Weekend is an annual event for Cherokee County Teens organized and sponsored by Standing Rock Solid Youth Ministers' Association each March. This year's event will be held on March 28th, 29th, and 30th. That is, if they can get the help needed to support the event. In previous years the event was sponsored by some big companies, such as Outback Steakhouse, and that made things a little easier to handle financially. However, this year, funding of the event is tight. "Our sponsors were not able to participate this year and this leaves Standing Rock Solid to foot the entire bill. This is going to be difficult since we weren't prepared for it to be this way," states Amanda Knowles, a member of the youth ministers' group. The group is asking for the support of local businesses and churches to help make the event the success it has been in the past. What the group is seeking ranges from monetary donations to purchase food for the event (one night is pizza night and the other is Bar-BQ) and drinks. Knowles explains, "If any- one is willing to donate money, or gift cards, to purchase sodas or the pizza it would help us keep the event alive. We feed over 600 students for two nights and bring in some great Christian bands and speakers for the event. We've handled the food by way of sponsors from local vendors in the past, but they just can't do it this year." This event brings in hundreds of teens to help teach them Biblical truths through fun, fellowship, prayer, and Bible study. Standing Rock Solid seeks someone to assist in keeping this ministry alive. If you, your church, or your organization can assist with any size contribution or food items, please contact Amanda Knowles at 487- 0446 or amandak@hospicecare. net. All of the churches currently involved are already making donations to support the Bible study program and speakers. It is the youth ministers' hope that they can find some willing souls to help with the rest. |
