NRC will seek public input on Duke project

2007 capital investment was $80.1 million, report shows

      Although 2007's economic investment figures didn't approach the record-setting mark of 2006, local development officials weren't complaining either. Owner asks court to return video poker machines

      Arguing their client was an innocent third party and that video poker machines aren't necessarily contraband, lawyers for a New Jersey company that owns the 119 video poker machines seized during a May 2007 police raid in Blacksburg are asking the court to return them.

Firefighters burn down house owned by Blacksburg police chief

      A home owned by Blacksburg Police Chief Jamie Ham burned to the ground Thursday night and he was happy about it. The home on East Cherokee Street had already been struck by fire once before, about four years ago, and was beyond repair.

Stolen vehicle strikes deputy's police cruiser, driver escapes on foot

      A Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy escaped injury when his cruiser was struck by the driver of a stolen vehicle late Monday night. An apartment in Connecticut Village, however, sustained some damage when the stolen vehicle hit the building.

BPW approves $37 million budget
