Moss moving closer to picking staff
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

New Blacksburg High football coach Mickey Moss plans to have his staff in place within 10 days.

Moss said two members of his current Wren High School staff will join him at Blacksburg.

"We are just trying to work out the details," he said.

He said there are no plans to increase the school's current 10-man coaching staff.

"We just have to make sure that we have the best people in the best places," said Moss, who has compiled a 163-137 record at four schools. "I will try to put together a coaching staff that is like a family and that has everybody on the same page."

Moss said he was impressed with the school's facilities, including the new athletic fieldhouse.

Moss said under his present contract he is obligated to stay at Wren until the end of the school year, but he plans to visit Blacksburg two or three times a week.

Moss led East Clarendon to four region titles and the Class A state championship in 1985. He has coached at Lake City and Saluda high schools. Lake City made the playoffs in 10 of his 13 seasons.

His teams have produced 40 college football players and two NFLplayers.

Moss replaced Robbie Blanton, who will remain as the Blacksburg High athletic director. Moss will serve as the school's assistant athletic director of football operations.
