Blacksburg High School will hold an open house Sunday, March 16, to showcase its new ninth grade wing.

The community is invited to tour the ninth grade addition from 2 until 4 p.m. Student council members will show people around the 2- story facility.

"We look forward to showing off the new building," Blacksburg High Principal Jim Touchberry said. "We are real appreciative to the school district for what they have done for our school."

Ninth grade students started classes in the new addition on Monday. The facility includes 12 regular classrooms, two physical science labs, a commons area, guidance area, computer lab and a new band room.

The ninth grade wing can accommodate 220 students and is located next to the school cafeteria.

The Blacksburg High addition is the first project completed as part of a $35 million school building program the district began in 2006. A Gaffney High ninth grade addition is scheduled for completion in late April.

The other building projects under construction are a new Limestone Learning Center, a Gaffney High stadium and track and a 6-classroom Goucher Elementary addition. All projects are scheduled to be finished this summer.
