Leland C. Moss
EARL N. C. - Leland ("Cotton") Cary Moss went home to be with the Lord at his home in Earl on Thursday, March 6, 2008, surrounded by family and friends.
Leland Cary Moss was born March 17, 1929, to the late
Thomas Langdon Moss and Maude Katherine McSwain in Earl, N.C. Leland was the youngest son and seventh child in a family of eight.
Leland was a graduate of Number Three High School and he attended Cleveland Community College. After graduation he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War in 1951 and 1952. After Leland came home from service, he had a poultry farm and then later worked at Porter Brothers. He retired in 1991 from Shelby Marina Incorporated.
Leland loved life and had many friends and for years went water skiing. He was an expert skier.
Leland loved to travel and his one desire was to see all 50 states and the Panama Canal, which he did along with his wife, Laladge. He loved to travel out west and see the wild animals and he could spot them a mile away. Leland just liked to travel and shop and see things of interest and be in no hurry.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Elva Moss Blanton and Hilda Moss Webster, three brothers-in-law, Marsdon Blanton, John Webster and Hendry Hendrick, and one sister-in-law, Judith Blanton Moss, preceded him in death.
Leland is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laladge Jolley Moss; sisters, Mrs. Henry (Jackie) Hendrick and Mary Freeman of Earl, and brothers, Thomas Moss and wife, May, James Moss of Mount Sinai Community, Marcus Moss and wife, Ann, of Cherryville, N.C. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom he loved dearly.
The family is at the home.
Services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Russ Bradley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory 106 Cherryville Road, Shelby.
