Rebel hurler shuts down Indians This hasn't been the best of times for the Gaffney High baseball team - especially offensively. After being blanked in a loss last week against Boiling Springs, the Indians offense was shut down again in a 7-1 loss at Byrnes on Tuesday. The Indians, who started the season with four straight non-region victories, fall to 0-2 in Region II-4A. Joseph Moorefield, who has signed with Clemson, dominated the Indians, allowing just two hits. Boiling Springs ace Jimmy Ravan held the Indians to just two hits and struck out 17 in a 1-0 victory over the Indians last Wednesday. The Rebels broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth. The Indians tied the game in the top of the fifth when Tyler Wilson walked, moved to second on Nick Mabry's single, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Thomas Goode's fielder's choice. Byrnes took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning before sealing the win with a pair of runs in the sixth. Wilson, who pitched five innings, was saddled with the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. Matt Lester relieved Wilson. Josh Moss also pitched for the Indians. McCrae Norton had the other Gaffney hit. Gaffney will try to secure its first region win Friday against visiting Dorman. The Indians have a non-region game against Easley on Saturday. GAFFNEY'S OFFENSIVE WOES The Indians have scored just one run and have just two hits in two region games - both losses - this season. Nick Mabry and McCrae Norton had the only hits in a 7-1 loss to Byrnes |
