Craig leads Gaffney runners to win over Hanna The Gaffney High boys track team gave coach James Davis another reason to smile Monday. Just three days after a narrow defeat to defending state champion Dorman, the Indians dominated the sprints and field events to beat T.L. Hanna and Pendleton. The Indians racked up 85.5 points. T.L. Hanna finished with 50.5, while Pendleton had 42. "Coming off the narrow loss to Dorman, I was very happy with the way we ran," Davis said. "We had a good performance and the kids showed a lot of character." Sophomore speedster Joe Craig had another big showing, winning the 100 and 200 meter races. He teamed with Cam Smith, Dennis Dawkins and Denard Smith to win the 4x100 meter relay. Kenard Lipscomb finished first in the 800 meters. The Indians were strong in the field events, with Jordan Manning capturing the high jump and Denzell Good finishing first in the shot put. Cam Smith placed first in the long jump, while Denard Smith won the triple jump and Darius Dawkins took first in the discus. In the distance events, Gaffney's Austin Steagall was a bright spot in the mile. Gaffney returns to action on Saturday at the Trojan Relays at Northwestern High School. About 20 high schools are expected to compete. |
