Dorman tops GHS, Bulldogs

The defending Class 4A golf champion Dorman Cavaliers proved they are serious about keeping their title by improving to 5-0 with victories over Gaffney and Boiling Springs at Cherokee National on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers shot a fourover 148, to finish five strokes ahead of the host Indians.

Dorman's Will Ovenden shot even par 36 to claim medalist honors.

Daniel Whisenant shot a 1- over 37 to lead the Indians. Matthew Hopper shot a 38, while Adam Goins and Will Coggins each shot a 39 to round out the Gaffney scoring.

The Indians fall to 1-3.

"Dorman is tough, but we should beat them at home," Gaffney coach Todd Coggins said. "A couple of our golfers had some bad holes. We got off to a bad start then made a couple of birdies at the end but it wasn't enough to beat Dorman."
