MARCUS ELLIOT GRANT

The call went out on Wednesday evening, March 12, 2008, at 10:17 p.m., for a new member of the Heavenly Basketball Team. Marcus Elliot Grant answered that call.

He went home to Jesus to play the game he loved on a new team. A team where he would not be tired or short of breath, a team where all of his shots will be three points.

In Carolina Medical Center University Hospital, Marc left behind all of his earthly possessions to pick up his pure white uniform for Jesus.

"Marc," as all his family and friends knew him, was the loving husband of Rhonda Patrice Grier Grant and the much loved son of Vivian Hopper Procter and Fred Augustus Grant.

He was born in Greensboro, N.C., on Jan. 9, 1971.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rev. C.K. Hopper and Burnice Craig Hopper, paternal grandmother, Emily J. Grant, and three uncles, Cornelius C. Hopper, Sullivan T. Hopper and Billie T. Hopper.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rhonda Grier Grant; son, Sterling Andrew Grant of the home; mother and step-father, Vivian H. Proctor and Eddie C. Proctor, Sr. of Charlotte; sister, Kimberly E. Grant of Rock Hill; father, Fred A. Grant of Greensboro, N.C.; step-sisters, Kimberly C. Proctor and Charlene D. Faison (Shawn) of Gaffney; step-brother, Eddie C. Proctor Jr. of Gaffney; grandmother, Elease Sullivan of Gaffney; father-in-law and mother-in-law, St. Clair and Diane Staley of Charlotte; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Grier, Calvin Sexton and Calvin Knox, all of Charlotte; three sisters-in-law, Missy Grier, Tiffany Sexton and Nikki Knox, all of Charlotte; three nieces, JanShelia Craig and Tanizah Ellis of Gaffney, Morgan Givens of Charlotte; 16 nephews, Bobby Grier, Jr., Brandon Grier, Brittan Grier, Brian Grier, Malik Knox, Moncice Knox, Matthew Knox, Michah Knox, Messiah Knox and Jonathan Givens, all of Charlotte, Ricky J. Proctor, Isaiah S. Hughes, Joarius K. Goode, Amari E. Proctor, Malcolm E. Proctor, and Jeffron Wells, all of Gaffney; nine aunts, Nurvern L. Ricks, Peggy F. Littlejohn, Lucy M. Proctor, Karen E. Proctor, Shelia Tate, Wanda D. Hopper, Audrey D. Watkins of Gaffney, Mary G. Hopper of St. Paul, MN, and Lucille McNeal of Philadelphia, Pa.; five uncles, Vincent K. Hopper, Kevin D. Sullivan, Bill Tate, Calvin Watkins, all of Gaffney, Tyrone W. Hopper of Alameda, Calif.; stepgrandmother, Annie B. Hopper of Gaffney; great-aunt, Lettie C. Craig of Gaffney; god-daughter, Teaira Downer of Charlotte; and numerous cousins and friends.

Services will be Monday, March 17, at 4 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, Gaffney, with Dr. Michael A. Bridges officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Body will be in the church Monday at 3 p.m.
