February home starts, values down from last year
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

The housing slump continued here last month.

There were 10 new home starts in Cherokee County in February - down one from the same month a year ago, according to a monthly report issued by the Home Builders Association of Cherokee County.

That follows the trend in January, when there were two fewer new home starts from the same period a year ago.

There was more bad news in the home values, where the average price of the home starts dropped steeply from $127,762 in February 2007 to $87,595 last month.

The housing market in the city showed no change, with no new homes last month or in February 2007.

An $8,000 permit for a wall treatment at the new American Eagle Outfitter store at the outlet mall was the largest commercial permit issued by the city last month.

The largest commercial permit issued by the county was for a new sanctuary and classroom at Cherokee Creek Baptist valued at $3,043,861.
