Region-leading Mauldin shuts down Lady Indians'bats
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

The Gaffney High softball team has probably seen enough of Mauldin this season.

The Lady Indians mustered just two hits in falling to the region-leading Lady Mavericks 6-0 on Friday.

Mauldin took the lead for good with two runs in the first inning. The Lady Mavericks added three more runs in the second and capped their scoring with a solo run in the sixth.

Lana Ward and Courtney Campbell had the lone hits for the Lady Indians, who drop to 4-2 in region play.

"They just came out hitting and we didn't," Gaffney coach Kelly Ellis said.

Ellis praised the Lady Mavericks pitching effort.

"They just kept us off balance at the plate," she said.

Julie Sarratt went five innings to pick up the loss. Campbell pitched the sixth and seventh for the Lady Indians.

The loss drops the Lady Indians into a tie for second place with Byrnes.

Gaffney will travel to Broome High School on Tuesday before hosting region rival Dorman on Thursday.
