Gaffney holds its own at T.W. Memorial tourney The Dorman golf team feasted on the rest of the field during the final round Friday of the T.W. Memorial Tournament. After starting the day tied with Gaffney at 315, the Cavaliers shot a final round 280 to beat first-round leader Bythewood by 16 strokes. Led by the strong play of Matthew Hopper, the Indians finished third with a 315-307 - 622. Hopper posted a 75-73 - 148 to finish 17th overall. "He's come a long way," said Gaffney coach Todd Coggins, commenting on Hopper's play. "He stayed focused all 18 holes." Phillip Rogers had a 78-76 - 154, while Adam Goins shot an 80-75 - 155 and Daniel Whisenant had an 82-83 - 165 to round out the Indians' scoring. Woodfin Ridge Golf Club hosted the final round. Blythewood was second with a 310-296 - 606. Michael Muscatelli of Charlotte Country Day was the top individual finisher with a 70-69 - 139. Gaffney is back in action at another tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hartman Memorial at White Plains Country Club. |
