Overseas soldiers get Girl Scouts cookies
During their annual cookie sale, Girl Scouts offered the opportunity to purchase cookies that would be sent to soldiers currently serving abroad on active duty. This year, Girl Scout cookie customers in the Upstate region of South Carolina provided over 11,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Blue Star Mothers for shipping overseas. The "Cookies for Soldiers" purchases were delivered to the Blue Star Mothers, who pack and ship the cookies to soldiers. Members of the Fountain Inn B-1-118 South Carolina Army National Guard, led by Staff Sergeant David Schmidt, helped transport the cookies for shipping. Blue Star Mothers is a national organization consisting of mothers who currently have or have had children serving in the military. Throughout the year, the organization ships care packages and works with churches, schools and businesses to provide support for those serving at home and abroad. Girl Scout cookies are one of the most-requested items by our service men and women. Although the annual Girl Scout cookie sale is over, it is not too late to become involved. Blue Star Mothers will continue to take monetary donations to pay for the cookies' shipping costs. Donations by check to help ship the cookies overseas made be sent to Greenville Area Blue Star Mothers, P.O. Box 15301, Greenville, S.C. 29610. |
