WHAT'S UP

Meetings

The Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club will have a special membership meeting Tuesday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Sagebrush Restaurant. Terry Dennis, executive director of Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, will speak. The directors of other service organizations are also, invited to speak. Guests and prospective new members are welcome. Meals will be provided. Women who are interested in joining the Gaffney BPW will have one-half of their dues paid by the club. Members, guests, and the directors service organizations who are plan to attend, must RSVP by Friday, March 28. Call 489-6175 or 488-0826.

Senior events

Hooks and Needles with Love is looking for new members to knit or crochet items to be given to those who might need hats, scarves, etc. The group's next meeting will be Monday, March 31, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Gaffney Senior Center. Some yarn is available to use for these projects. For more information, call Joan Wood, 487-2726.

Notices

The Cherokee County Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for new members of its disaster assistance team. Training will be available Tuesday, April 8, from 10 a.m-2 p.m. or from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The four-hour training sessions enable one to respond on the scene on behalf of the American Red Cross to disasters, most commonly a house fire. Team members will select one oncall week a quarter to respond to disasters that happen after normal business hours. Preregistration and a volunteer application form must be completed prior to class. Special events

The Cherokee County American Red Cross will have a free " mock shelter" demonstration in association with the Red Cross Heroes Campaign on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the parking lot of Buford Street Drugs Ace Hardware, 113 W. Buford St. The event is designed to allow everyone an opportunity to view what a genuine shelter looks like and simulate the experience of a shelter.

Church news

Draytonville Baptist Church will have a fifth Sunday night singing March 30. Featured will be New Song and Higher Praise of First Baptist Church.

The YWAs of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have their annual YWA program Sunday, March 30, at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Teresa Black, pastor of Holy Temple Baptist Church, Cowpens.

Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church will have a special program, "100 Men and More in Black United Together as Strong Black Men," on Sunday, March 30, at 4 p.m. Michael Bridges, pastor of Concord Baptist Church, will be the speaker. All men from surrounding churches are invited to be a part of the event.

Support groups

AA meetings are held at 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church on Carlisle Street. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend.

To find locations of Narcotics Anonymous meetings call 1-800-828-568. A group meets at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. (lit study) and Saturdays at 6 p.m. (open).

From One Single Mother to Another, a support group/ ministry for single moms, meets the first Tuesday of every month from 6-7 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church in Blacksburg. Dinner and childcare are provided. For information email fmstephens@bellsouth.net.

Gospel singings

Chesnee Music Center will have a singing Saturday featuring Faith Walkers 4 of Asheboro, N.C. A hot dog supper will be served at 5 p.m. and the singing starts at 7. For more information, call 828- 202-5603.
