Principal changes approved
By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

Alma Elementary School Principal Jean Brewington will move across town to become the new principal at Gaffney Middle School.

Brewington is finishing her fifth year at Alma Elementary. She will replace Gaffney Middle School Principal Herman Thompson.

Thompson was recently hired as the district's director of attendance, transportation and discipline. Both will begin their new duties July 1.

Kim Camp will be the new Alma Elementary principal. Camp is the school's literacy coach this year.

Superintendent Dr. Bill James made the recommendations at Monday's school board meeting. School trustees voted unanimously to approve the principal assignments.

Brewington came to Alma Elementary from Union County where she was an assistant superintendent for instruction and curriculum. She retired this spring under the state's Teacher Employment Retirement Incentive (TERI). The program allows educators to retire after 28 years and work for a maximum of five additional years before their retirement takes effect.

In January, Brewington stated she planned to continue working in the Cherokee County school system.
