Truckers drive off without paying gas tabs A Blacksburg gas station reported the theft of gas by three separate truckers in recent weeks. According to reports filed with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the Wilco Travel Plaza on East Cherokee Street claimed one trucker drove off on March 15 without paying for $385.56 in gas; another trucker drove off on March 14 without paying for $537.16 in gas; while a third trucker drove off Feb. 29 without paying for $94.02 in gas. The gas station was able to provide police with license plate numbers or driver's license numbers in each of the three cases. Door damaged The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported someone tried to break into the golf shop at Cherokee National Golf Club last Thursday. About $600 in damage was reported to a lock and door to the club's shop, though no entry was made. Copper found A thief or thieves who stole about 300 feet of copper wire apparently abandoned their haul, according to a Cherokee County Sheriff's Office incident report. The wire was stolen from a Crawford Road, Blacksburg, home sometime on March 18, according to police. The victim subsequently found the wire, valued at roughly $1,200, in a wooded area near his home. Toolbox taken A Blacksburg woman told the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office someone stole a toolbox from her yard containing about $500 in tools. The theft occurred sometime between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on March 20 on Old Buffalo Church Road. The stolen black Craftsman toolbox was black and contained Craftsman tools, according to a police report. Pit bull stolen A Cowpens man reported to police the theft of a pit bull from a Blacksburg property. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the dog was taken sometime between March 18 and March 19 from a Plonk Road property. The male dog is white with gray spots and a darker gray stripe down its back. The dog also had blue eyes, according to the police report. The man who reported the theft told police he paid $1,000 for the dog. Car blasted A car on West Buford Street apparently was struck by a shotgun blast Easter morning, according to a report by Gaffney Police. A 1997 Chevrolet Blazer was struck in the passenger side door sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Damage is estimated at about $1,000. Car break-in reported A vehicle parked at Prime Outlets - Gaffney was the target of a break-in late Saturday evening, according to Gaffney police. An employee of Outback Steakhouse found someone broke the rear passenger side window of his 2008 Dodge truck to gain access, but nothing appeared missing. The window damage is estimated at $200. Gun reported stolen An Oliver Street man reported to Gaffney police someone stole a .32 caliber handgun from his home Saturday evening. According to an incident report, the man said a woman came to his home at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday to get a blanket. After the woman left, the man told police he found his handgun missing from his bedroom. - Tim Gulla |
