The Gaffney junior varsity golf team used the home course to its advantage to capture the 2008 Indian Invitational Tournament on Tuesday.

Fourteen teams competed in the event.

Gaffney shot a 318 to finish four strokes ahead of Easley. Boiling Springs finished third with a 323.

Gaffney's David Hopper was the medalist with a 76.

Phillip Rogers had a 77, EJ Blanton shot an 82, Chevy Hartzog shot an 83 and Cabrick Waters had an 86 to complete the Indians' scoring.

The all tournament team included Gaffney's David Hopper and Phillip Rogers, Justin Hendrix and Ryan Nichols of Boiling Springs and Braden Pratt of Easley.

"We finished third last year and we really wanted to come out and play strong and win it this year," Gaffney coach Dustin Kite said. "For most of them, it was their first tournament and first time playing 18 holes."

"David really had a strong round and got things going in the right direction for us," Kite added. "Phillip and EJ started out slow but ended up with nice rounds. The back was playing real hard today and had some high scores. We won a 4-team match on Monday against Byrnes, Union, and Boiling Springs and I think that helped us play as well as we did today. Clay Childers and Conner Chitty also played well and hopefully this will give them some confidence for the rest of our upcoming matches."
