Suggests taking Prevatte Field goalposts to new stadium

Dear Editor:

Now that the new football stadium is beginning to take shape, I would like to make a suggestion to the powers-that-be concerning this project.

In the past, there has always been a certain amount of fear struck in the hearts of visitors to "The Reservation" for a game with the Gaffney High School Indians. They were aware of the history of champions born in that stadium. In order to continue that intimidation, the ghosts of past "warriors" must travel to the new location. This is why I, and many others, feel the goalposts from the sacred battleground of Prevatte Field should be moved to the new home of Indian pride and tradition.

Whether or not you believe in such folklore, the old Reservation has long been the home of last-minute turnovers and amazing comebacks of the "underdog" Indians to win big games. Let's take a piece of that history along with us as we move on to bigger and better accommodations. If you agree, call or write to our school board and let them know how you feel.

Thank you, Marcus Scott Childers

Gaffney, SC
