IDA GAFFNEY Ida Jane Roberts Gaffney, 92, of 705 9th St., went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2008, at her residence. Born in McDowell County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John Roberts and Caroline Biddix Roberts and widow of the Rev. Ernest Gaffney. Rev. and Mrs. Gaffney were church builders in Cherokee County. Mrs. Gaffney was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. Surviving are a son, James Howard Gaffney and wife, Margery, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Glenda Rufty and husband, Curtis, of Gaffney; nine grandchildren, Susan Evans, Donna Rutherford, Barbara Evans, Terry Tyler, Brian Thom, Chris Watring, Jay Thom, Libby Locke and Ronald Rufty; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Diane Neal and Philip Rufty. Mrs. Gaffney was preceded in death by a son, Paul Thomas Gaffney, and a daughter, Carolyn Gaffney. The family will receive friends Monday, March 31, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, April 1, at 11 a.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alester McKinney officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
