Bulldogs frustrate Gaffney
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

Surprise, surprise.

For the second time this season, Jimmy Revan and the Boiling Springs Bulldogs edged the Gaffney Indians by the same margin of 1-0 on Friday.

Revan struck out 13 in tossing a complete game four-hitter. Earlier in the season, Revan fanned 17 Gaffney batters.

Despite mustering only four hits, the Indians had their chances. In the first inning, Dylan Jolley was thrown out at home trying to stretch a hit off the wall into an inside-the-park homer.

In the seventh inning, the Indians had the potential tying run thrown out at third base.

"It was a good ballgame," Gaffney coach Tom Owens said. "We just couldn't get a break. The kids are playing great. We played great defense, but we aren't getting the timely hit."

Owens praised the effort of Gaffney starting pitcher Tyler Wilson, who gave up just six hits and struck out 11 in six innings of work.

"It was a good pitcher's duel," Owens said.

Jeffrey Campbell scored the game's lone run in the fifth inning.

The region-leading Bulldogs improve to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in Region II-4A.

Josh Mata and Nick Mabry had the other hits for the Indians, who drop to 1-5 in the region and now are facing must wins to qualify for the playoffs.

The Indians have a busy week with a game at Spartanburg on Tuesday, a home game against T.L. Hanna on Wednesday and another nonregion game at Lancaster on Thursday before returning home for a big region tilt on Saturday against Byrnes at 1 p.m.
