The Lancaster Bruins kept coming back on Thursday.

The Bruins rallied several times in the game and eventually tied it with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh before earning a 14-13 eightinning victory over the visiting Gaffney High baseball team.

After the Indians were retired in the top of the eighth, the Bruines had a leadoff single, a bunt and a error to load the bases. The next batter walked to end the game.

The Indians pounded out 16 hits and 13 runs but it wasn't enough because of some uncharacteristic shoddy defense.

"We committed something like eight errors and that's not how we've been playing defense," Gaffney coach Tom Owens said. "The last two innings, they exploded on us."

Owens said the pitching has been a trouble spot, as well.

"We aren't throwing strikes and we are walking too many people," he said.

McCrae Norton continued to swing a hot bat for the Indians, with three hits, including a leadoff homer.

Tyler Wilson also had three hits and smacked a solo homer for the Indians.

Cameron Culp and Dylan Jolley each had two hits for Gaffney.

The Indians led 2-0 before the Bruins tied and went ahead 3-2.

In a game of momentum swings, the Indians regained the advantage at 5-3.

The Indians took a 13-12 lead into the bottom of the seventh but couldn't hold it.

Gaffney also was victimized by defensive miscues in a 9-3 home loss to T.L. Hanna on Wednesday.

Cameron Culp started and was saddled with the loss.

Owens praised the performance of several players, including Norton, Jolley, eighth-grader Josh Mata, Nick Mabry and Bubba Wright.

"We have several kids who are playing their hearts out for us," the Gaffney coach said. "They are playing extremely well."

After the consecutive nonregion losses, the Indians host region rival Byrnes on Saturday at 1 p.m. Wilson is expected to get the start.

"It's a game that we have to win if we want to make the playoffs," the Gaffney coach said.
