Thieves make off with several items from Whelchel Road construction site

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating two incidents of grand larceny at a Whelchel Road construction site.

Sometime between March 29 and April 4, according to a police report, someone stole numerous items of electrical equipment, light bulbs and lighting fixtures from a storage unit belonging to Johnson's Modern Electric of East Bend, N.C.

Also during the same time period, someone took a large number of windows, screens, attic access doors and two air conditioning units from the construction site that were owned by Harmon & Associates of Tryon, N.C.

Stolen electrical supplies included 304 circuit breakers, 42 lights, 288 60-watt light bulbs, and 120 4-foot florescent light bulbs.

Stolen materials included 345 window screens, eight attic access doors and three doors.

The value of the items stolen from Harmon & Associates is estimated at about $9,000 while there was no estimate available for the stolen electrical supplies.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Saturday morning incident in which a 24-year-old man was assaulted in a Wilcox Avenue bar.

According to a police report, the 24-year-old man was struck in the face with a beer bottle and then punched several times by an unknown white male. The suspect was wearing a gray tank top and has short hair. The 24-yearold victim was taken for emergency medical treatment.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the burglary of a Blacksburg area gas station.

Police were dispatched to J Express, 2705 E. Cherokee St., at about 2:50 a.m. on Monday on a report of an activated alarm. Upon their arrival they found someone had broken the front door, causing about $1,000 in door damage and $1,000 in sheet rock damage. Missing from the store was $210 in change.

A 73-year-old woman's Blacksburg home was targeted by a copper thief, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

Early Tuesday morning, someone cut copper wiring from a power box on a Johns Cross Road home and also stole metal sheeting surrounding the base of the home. Theft and damage are estimated at $400.

Blacksburg police reported the theft of a scooter recently.

According to an incident report, a Borders Road man had parked his Tank-brand scooter on Wilbur Street where he met with a friend and took a dog for a walk. Returning about 10 minutes later, the man found his scooter had been stolen. The red and gray scooter is valued at $1,001.

The Gaffney Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run on Hetty Hill Street that sent three men to the hospital Tuesday night.

According to a police report, a 20-year-old Bonner Lake Road man was pulling his Ford Crown Victoria away from a Hetty Hill Street home at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when his car was struck in the rear by the driver of a black Chevrolet S- 10 pickup.

The truck sped away and one of the passengers in the car was able to track it down on Granite Drive. A woman who owned the truck told police she let someone drive it.

Both vehicles were damaged, police said, and were towed.

The car sustained an estimated $1,500 in damage while the pickup sustained an estimated $3,500 in damage.

Blacksburg police are investigating the recent theft of a motor vehicle.

A white 1994 Mazda minivan was reported stolen from Mountain Street sometime between 11:40 p.m. March 27 and 5:30 a.m. March 28.

The vehicle, valued at approximately $4, 000, had been parked outside the owner's apartment.
