How much is your property worth? Reassessment notices should be arriving in county mailboxes next month. Cherokee County Tax Assessor Bob Everett said his office is "cleaning up files" and awaiting word from the software manufacturer that prepares the reassessment notices County appraisers have spent the last two years examining more than 28,000 parcels in the countywide reassessment. Everett wouldn't comment on how much the latest round of property reassessments has increased taxable values, but said "some parcels have gone up and some have gone down." Parcels which have not changed owners since the last reassessment can't jump by more than 15 percent, according to a recent amendment to the state constitution, Everett said. Although the county has worked hard to make sure the new assessments are accurate, some taxpayers will likely be upset with the new values. if that's the case, county property owners will have 90 days to file an appeal once they receive their reassessment notice. |
