'Repossessed' truck found at scrap yard The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Thursday incident in which two men purported to repossess a vehicle but sold it to a scrap yard. The incident occurred on Bonner Lake Road, according to a police report. Two men went to the property and told the vehicle owner they were there to repossess two vehicles, a 1985 Ford truck and a 1991 Buick car. The Ford truck subsequently was found at a scrap yard, where it was sold for $618. The truck was returned to the owner. Wire stolen About 700 feet of electrical wire valued at $2,500 was reported stolen from a Pacolet property last week, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Sometime between Feb. 20 and April 9, someone stole from an Asbury Road property 300 feet of #3 conductor wire, 180 feet of #2 conductor wire and 200 feet of #1 conductor wire. Gun found in yard A Grace Street property owner turned a handgun over to police after finding the weapon in her yard early Thursday. The .25-caliber handgun was found at about 12:30 a.m. and was turned over to a police captain. Drug charges The Gaffney Police Department arrested a 31- year-old man Tuesday evening on drug charges after they stopped him for alleged reckless driving on a moped. According to a police report, an officer observed Marcus McCluney, of Littlejohn Street, doing "doughnuts" on a moped at Limestone Courts. Two officers subsequently stopped McCluney as he was walking away. During a search, police claim they found two glassine bags containing 42.2 grams of suspected marijuana in McCluney's pocket. McCluney was booked on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana in proximity of a school, trespassing after notice and reckless driving. The arrest occurred within 1/2 mile of an elementary school. Tarps taken More than $8,000 in tarps were stolen recently from a trailer parked outside a Blacksburg restaurant, according to a report at the Blacksburg Police Department. Seven tarps, each valued at $1,200, were taken March 31 on North Mountain Street as the trailer was parked outside the Hardee's. Also stolen was a ladder valued at $300. Police reported the tarps had "Premier Transportation" and "Kamm Industries" printed on them. Due to the value of the stolen items, the theft is considered grand larceny. House damaged A vandal or vandals caused almost $200 in damage to an Amber Leaf Drive property Thursday. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the homeowner was sleeping when he heard noises coming from the outside of his residence. The homeowner found damage to his porch rail, the downspouts on his gutters and tulips. The incident happened about 3:30 a.m. Teen charged The Gaffney Police Department reported the seizure of suspected crack cocaine and marijuana during a Tuesday afternoon traffic stop. According to a police report, special agents from the department executed a traffic stop at Short Peeler Street and Marion Avenue after a vehicle allegedly failed to yield the right of way. Upon approaching the vehicle, an officer noticed a glassine bag of suspected marijuana in the lap of a rear seat passenger. When they asked the driver, Julio Colon, 18, of West Carlisle Street, for permission to search the vehicle and attempted to frisk him, Colon allegedly attempted to break away. Police said they found a large white rocklike substance in the driver's watch pocket. Colon was charged in an arrest warrant with trafficking ice, crank or crack cocaine. Wallet stolen A woman's wallet, phone and other documents were stolen from her vehicle while it was parked in a North Limestone Street lot on Thursday, according to Gaffney police. The woman's losses were estimated at $235, according to a police report. The incident occurred between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the 600 block of the street. |
