Claude Nesbitt "Red" Spencer
Retired from Oxford Ind.

Claude Nesbitt "Red" Spencer, 84, of the Draytonville community, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Willie Mae Hunnicutt "Bebe" Spencer for 65 years and the son of the late Charles W. and Mamie Raines Spencer.

Mr. Spencer was a devout Christian and was devoted to Draytonville Baptist Church all his life. He served as a deacon, Sunday school class teacher, a RA leader and Training Union director at different times at his church.He was also a U.S Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Spencer worked for Oxford Industries for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He loved bird hunting and being a gardener and gave most of what he grew away.

Surviving along with his wife are two sisters, Mrs. W.D. Childers and Mrs. Tommy Turner, both of Gaffney, and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held Saturday, April 19, at Draytonville Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Ivey officiating. Burial was in church cemetery. Visitation was held at the church following the the service.

Pallbearers were Bobby Martin, Terry Holmes, Tommy Turner, Al Turner, Barry Turner, Cecil Childers, John Mullinax, and Clyde Acrey.

Memorials may be made the charity of one's choice.

The family would like to give special thanks to the employees of Dogwood Hall at Brookview for their loving care while he was there.
