Ara G. Jefferies
Retired dietician from Gaffney High School

Ara Gamble Jefferies, 88, of Peachtree Centre, 1434 N. Limestone St., passed away Monday, April 21, 2008, at 4:25 p.m. at her residence.

Born Jan. 9, 1920, in William-ston, she was the widow of Lloyd Paul Jefferies and daughter of the late Grandson Gamble and the late Laura Thompson. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess and member of the usher board, kitchen committee, J.W. Sanders Missionary Circle and the General Missionary Circle. She was a retired dietician from Gaffney High School.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jefferies was preceded in death by a daughter, Dollie Mary Stewart.

Surviving are two sons, Lloyd Thompson Jefferies and Boyce Harris, both of Gaffney; two daughters, Sarah Pauline Jefferies and Patricia Ann Jefferies, both of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Services will be held Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., Dr. J.W. Sanders Jr., the Rev. Danny Burnside, the Rev. Heyward Boyd, the Rev. Dewey Whittenburg and Minister Dollie M. Elmore officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Patricia Jefferies, 140 New St.
