Former baseball player sues Limestone College

A former Limestone College baseball player has filed an 11-count lawsuit against the college in the wake of a Nov. 7, 2007, accident in which he was injured because of allegedly defective baseball equipment.

Bryan Short, a nonresident college student who was attending Limestone on a baseball scholarship, sustained unspecified injuries when a struck baseball careened through an unrepaired hole in an L-shaped screen used during batting practice to protect pitchers.

The lawsuit alleges the college was negligent in its maintenance of the equipment and in not properly overseeing the management of its employees, among other claims.

After Short reported the defective equipment and announced his intention to seek payment of past, present and future medical bills, the suit alleges the college, through its agents and employees, harassed Short to the point he was no longer able to tolerate the abuse and he surrendered his spot on the baseball team.

The suit claims Short suffered the loss of potential future scholarships, the ability to advance his baseball skills, and the loss of an opportunity for a career as a professional baseball player.
