Tyler Wilson and John Michaels made sure the Gaffney Indians' season didn't end on Saturday in the second round of the district playoffs.
Wilson pitched five innings of scoreless relief and Michaels belted the game-deciding 2-run homer in the seventh as the Indians staved off elimination with a come-from-behind 6-4 victory at Westside.
Westside teed off on Gaffney starter Cameron Culp for four runs in the first inning. Culp, who was making his first playoff start, allowed five hits and walked two in two innings. Wilson took over in the third and was nearly unhittable, limiting Westside to only two hits and striking out eight. He also walked two batters.
"Tyler did a good job," Gaffney coach Tom Owens said. "As long as he stays focused, he pitches well. It's amazing, though, that was his first win. He just threw strikes."
Michaels was the other star, with three hits, including the game-winning homer - a shot that cleared the 355-mark in center field.
The Indians (13-11) face a must-win situation again today at York, a 16-6 winner over White Knoll on Saturday. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
Gaffney went up with a run in the first inning. McCrae Norton had a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on Michael Hughey's fielder's choice.
The Indians trimmed the deficit to 4-2 with another run in the second when Bubba Wright scored on Hughey's sacrifice fly.
Gaffney tied the game at 4 in the fifth. Michaels' single scored Bobby Jackson and Norton followed with a single that brought home Wright.
Jackson and Norton each had two hits. Gaffney had eight hits for the game.
"I was real proud of the way the guys battled back," Owens said. "I was real proud of the way we played defense."
