Mildred F. Wood Mildred Frances Wood, 85, of 510 Thompson St., formerly of 101 Cypress Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Brookview Healthcare. Born in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late John Baxter Wood and Corine White Wood. Miss Wood was a graduate of Gaffney High School, Limestone College and Winthrop College. She was a home economics teacher for 50 years and was a former president of South Carolina Home Economics, Division of the S.C. Vocational Association. Miss Wood was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney. She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Pettit of Rutherfordton, N.C., and a special friend, Pressley Best of Galivant's Ferry, S.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Wood, Finley Wood, Freeman Wood and John Wood; and two sisters, Lois Stevens Craig and Betty Lou Phillips. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 7, from 3-4 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Services will follow in the chapel at 4 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joel Sellars and Dr. M. B. Morrow Jr. Interment will be in Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Senior Center of Cherokee County, 499 W.
