June 10 primary drawing little interest
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Unlike previous elections, this hasn't been a hardfought primary season.

The only contests on the June 10 primary ballot is for U.S. Senate.

Buddy Witherspoon will oppose incumbent Lindsey Graham in the Republican Primary. Michael Cone will battle Bob Conley for the Democrat Party nomination for Graham's Senate seat.

No local candidates have opposition within their own party.

To make matters worse when it comes to drawing interest in the primary, no Senatorial candidate has stumped here.

Cherokee County Election Commission Chairman Suzanne Turner said she's crossing her fingers in terms of voter turnout.

"I don't know how many we'll have," Turner said. "Other than Lindsey Graham, the other candidates aren't really well-known. I hope voters will come out."

Despite having only one office on the ballot, Turner said all the polling places will be open and manned with poll workers.

Voters can take advantage of the primary to update their registration if it has changed, Turner said.
