SCDOT employees pick up three tons of litter

COLUMBIA - Carolina Spring Clean Week was held April 14-18. During the week, 1,907 South Carolina Department of Transportation maintenance employees removed 434,368 pounds of litter from 2,903 miles of highways. Of those miles, 43 were in Cherokee County, where 34 employees picked up 6,620 pounds of litter.

The annual cleanup has been a part of the SCDOT litter abatement efforts for 32 years. It is a major component of the agency's enhancement efforts as it provides an opportunity for the state's roadways to be cleaned and increases litter awareness among South Carolina's citizens.
