John W. Phillips

Cherokee County, native

John Wesley Phillips, 60, of 1123 Stateline Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at his home.

Born in Cherokee County, he was a son of Jimmie Phillips of the home and the late Pirliner Camp Phillips. He was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church.

John was preceded in death by four brothers, J.C., Bobby, Jimmy and Joseph Phillips.

Surviving in addition to his father are two sons, Robbie Hardy and Kelvin Crate, both of Gaffney; a daughter, Tonya Hardy of Gaffney; a sister, Hettie Phillips of the home; two aunts, Lonnie Phillips of Gaffney and Eunice Camp of Statesville, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 2, at 3 p.m. at Suck Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Macomson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
